Michael Flatley Supports Irish Centre Campaign

You have probably heard that the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith is under threat of closure due to the recent government initiative to sell buildings within the borough to raise money.

In response, the Irish Cultural Centre has created a campaign ‘WEAR YOUR HEARTS FOR IRISH ARTS’ in a bid to raise
£2 million to buy the centre before the lease expires at end of March 2012.

Supporters of the campaign include President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, Gabriel Byrne, Liam Neeson and Michael Flatley.

‘As someone who grew up outside of Ireland, I can appreciate how important it is to have access to such a resource as the Irish Cultural Centre. So many future dancers, artists and writers have passed through its doors – to lose this would be a great shame.

— Michael Flatley

The campaign to save the UK’s ONLY Centre dedicated to promoting Irish arts and culture needs all the help it can get.

The closing of the center would be a devastation for Irish culture in Britian. We must by all means prevent this not only for this generation alone but for those who follow.

— Gabriel Byrne
